Host Physicians: Eligibility

You are eligible to be a host physician in the Rural GP Anesthesia Locum Program (RGPALP) if you:

  • Are trained in anesthesia core service, maintain hospital privileges to practise in the same specialty, and actively provide on-call anesthesia service support to rural hospitals.

  • Practise more than 70 km from a major medical centre where specialists or general practitioner anesthetists (GPAs) provide similar specialty services.

  • Practise full-time in an eligible Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) community with 7 or fewer GPAs in the community (verified by the health authority each year).

  • Bill over $65,000/annum working in a designated rural community for a minimum of 9 months per year.

You may request up to 35 days coverage per fiscal year for RSA eligible communities.

Each request must be a minimum of 2 days. Communities eligible for the RGPALP must not be eligible for the RGPLP.

Note: If you practise in a community that is not part of the RSA, you are not eligible for the RGPALP. Contact Health Match BC to determine your eligability to post your locum vacancy on their website.
