To provide locum services through the Rural GP Anesthesia Locum Program (RGPALP), a locum physician must:

  • Be licensed (or eligible) to practise medicine in BC and have training in core anesthesia services.
  • Must stay in community for the duration of the locum contract.
  • Have malpractice liability insurance with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • Certification in ATLS, ACLS, or The CARE Course (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Enrolled in the Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP).
  • Not live or regularly practise the core specialty in the rural community requesting locum coverage.
  • Obtain health authority privileges to practise in the rural hospital(s).
 

Locum physicians will provide services in the host community for the duration of each assignment, including on-call services as per health authority requirements.

Locum physicians must cover at least the anesthesia portion of the host physician’s practice.

Once your application has been completed, and all accompanying documentation has been received, you will be notified of your registration status.

After you have been accepted into the program, you will be sent a service agreement which must be signed and returned to our office prior to the commencement of a locum assignment. This service agreement is renewed annually.
