To provide locum services through the Rural GP Locum Program (RGPLP), a locum physician must:

  • Be licensed (or eligible) to practise medicine in BC.
  • Have malpractice liability insurance with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • Certification in ATLS, ACLS, or The CARE Course (not mandatory, but preferred).
  • Enrolled in the Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP).
  • Obtain health authority privileges to practise in the rural hospital(s).
 

Locum physicians must also provide a list of any enhanced skills that they are able/willing to provide e.g. general surgery, anesthesia, emergency, obstetrics and gynecology.

To receive the stipend for enhanced skills, the service must be requested by the host physician and be required by the hospital.

Once your application has been completed, and all accompanying documentation has been received, you will be notified of your registration status.

After you have been accepted into the program, you will be sent a service agreement which you must sign and return to our office prior to the commencement of a locum assignment. This service agreement is renewed annually.
