Role and Facility Information
This posting is to cover vacation of one of the regular staff physicians. Locum orientation and mentoring is provided by the staff physicians of Fort St James.
Regular clinic hours are 0900-1600, with a one hour scheduled lunch from 1200-1300. The on call emergency shift is 24 hours, 0800-0800.
Physicians see patients through pre booked appointments, and the Acute Care Clinic. Care is provide through in person appointments, telephone appointments as well as some virtual appointments.
RGPLP daily rate for Fort St. James is $1105.

Clinic Description
Clinic Composition
Located in the Fort St James Health Centre, a newly renovated integrated care facility. Located within the Health Centre are physicians, clinic support staff and Northern Health inter professional primary care team members
Local Resources
Lab, x-ray, pharmacy, extended care, home nursing, dietetics, mental health and addictions, social workers.
Emergency Framework
Ambulance including Air Ambulance services.
Call Expectations
Permanent physicians work a rotation of 1:6 with 24 hours on call from 8am to 8am

Visiting Specialist/Consultant Information
Quarterly visits from specialists practicing in physical medicine & rehab, dermatology and internal medicine. Regular weekly telehealth visits with a rheumatologist.

Level of Support/Care and Policy
Welcoming Procedures
Locums are personally met by clinic staff on the day of arrival into community. They are given a quick tour of town, shown where the Fort St James Health Centre and Stuart Lake Hospital are located. They are then escorted to the supplied locum accommodation.
Orientation
Locums begin their first morning with an orientation at Stuart Lake Hospital by the Chief of Staff.
Then they will make their way down to the Fort St James Health Centre, where they will be met by the clinic manager or designate who will provide introductions to the rest of the team, as well as any MOIS training that may be required.
Locums will be directed to a workspace that will be theirs for the duration of the posting. All physician offices are a shared work space with two colleagues.
Clinic Policy
Regular office hours are Mon-Fri 9am-4pm closed 12pm-1pm for lunch, closed all statutory holidays.
Appointments are booked at 15, 20 or 30 minute intervals
Acute Care Clinic is operated daily from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. All physicians rotate through the acute care clinic, with one physician in the morning and another in the afternoon. Physicians rotate through outreach First Nation communities providing care in community, reducing patient travel.
